The goal for a successful interview for an Operating Room Nurse is to demonstrate a proficient understanding of surgical procedures and sterile techniques, exhibit strong communication and problem-solving skills, and portray a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Situational interview questions

  • You are working with a surgical team when a patient experiences a sudden and unexpected drop in blood pressure. Members of the team are scrambling to find the source of the problem, but nobody seems to have a clear answer. What steps would you take to address this situation and ensure the patient’s safety?
  • While preparing a patient for a complex and risky surgical procedure, you notice that the patient appears very anxious and uneasy. Despite your attempts to calm them down, they continue to express fears and concerns about the surgery. How would you address these concerns and help the patient feel more comfortable?
