Age discrimination is the act of treating someone differently, usually less favorably, because of his or her age in the workplace.

Although in most countries it is illegal at any stage of employment it generally happens to people under the age of 22 and over the age of 45 in the hiring process.

Different types of age discrimination

There are four main types of age discrimination:

1. Direct discrimination is what happens when someone gets treated worse than some other employee in the same situation because of their age.

2. Indirect discrimantion is what happens when the organization has a modus operandi which puts people of a specific age group at a disadvantage.

3. Harassment is what happens when someone gets humiliated, offended or degraded because on their age.

4. Victimisation is what happens when someone gets treated badly because they have made a complaint of age discrimination.
