The goal for a successful interview for a Respiratory Therapist is for the candidate to demonstrate a strong knowledge of respiratory care techniques and equipment, have excellent communication skills to be able to explain diagnoses and treatments to patients and families, and showcase their ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
Situational interview questions
- You are working with a patient who is struggling to breathe and experiencing rapid heart rate. The patient is anxious and unable to speak in full sentences. How do you respond to this situation and what steps do you take to provide efficient and effective respiratory care for the patient?
- You are responsible for assessing a patient who is experiencing difficulty sleeping due to breathing problems. The patient is also experiencing frequent episodes of coughing and wheezing. How do you address this situation and develop a treatment plan to improve the patient’s quality of sleep and overall respiratory health?
- You are working in the emergency department and have been tasked with providing respiratory support to a patient who has been in a serious car accident and is having trouble breathing.
