The goal for a successful interview for an Interaction Designer is to effectively communicate their design process, showcase their problem solving skills, and demonstrate their ability to create user-friendly designs that meet the needs and expectations of the end user.
Situational interview questions
- You are asked to design a user interface for a complex financial trading platform. Your team has identified that users struggle with navigating the platform and executing trades. How do you approach this problem and what design solutions would you propose?
- Your team is seeking to redesign an education application that aims to help students improve their reading comprehension skills. You have learned that users are easily distracted and lose interest quickly when reading lengthy passages. How would you design an interface that retains users’ attention and helps them focus on the content?
- You are tasked with designing a ticket purchasing system for a major concert venue. - How do you collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly with developers and product managers, to ensure that your designs align with product goals and technical constraints? Can you describe a particularly challenging project, and how you navigated these types of collaborations?
- Can you describe a design problem that you solved through iterative prototyping and testing? What were some of the key challenges and solutions you discovered along the way, and how did you incorporate these insights into the final design?
- What is your approach to designing interactions for emerging technologies, such as virtual or augmented reality? What are some of the unique design considerations that you must take into account for these platforms, and how do you balance technical feasibility with user needs and expectations?
