Direct hire refers to position where the company intends to hire a candidate and offers him/her the job directly. Direct hires are usually used for filling permanent roles as opposed to a temporary or contract-to-hire roles.

Companies sometimes use the services of an employment agency to find the right candidate, but in a direct hire situation, the company that is going to employ the candidate is the one that actually hires them.
