The goal of a successful interview for Sales Associate is to showcase their ability to effectively communicate with customers, demonstrate their knowledge of the products or services being sold, and display a strong work ethic and drive to meet sales targets.
Situational interview questions
- A customer has expressed concern over the price of a product you are trying to sell. How do you explain the value of the product and convince them that it’s worth the cost?
- You notice that a particular product is not selling as well as you anticipated. What steps would you take to identify the reasons for the product’s poor performance and come up with a solution to improve sales?
- A customer is dissatisfied with a product and demands a refund. How do you handle the situation and ensure that the customer leaves satisfied with the resolution?
- You are tasked with meeting a challenging sales target. How do you strategize and prioritize your actions to ensure that you meet or exceed the target?

STAR interview questions
1. Tell me about a time when you faced a difficult customer while working as a sales associate. What was your task in that situation? What actions did you take to resolve the customer’s issue, and what were the results of your efforts?
2. Describe a situation where you had to meet and exceed a sales target. What did you do to ensure that you were on track to meet your goal? What specific actions did you take to reach the sales target, and what were the results of your efforts?
3. Can you share an experience where you had to handle a complex sales process? What was your task at the time, and what actions did you take to execute the process? What were the final results of the sale?
4. Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a dissatisfied customer who had a negative experience with one of our products. What was your task in that situation, and what actions did you take to resolve the issue? What were the final results of your efforts?
5. Describe a scenario where you introduced a new product to a customer. What was your task, and what actions did you take to promote the product? What was the customer’s feedback on the product, and what were the final sales results for that product?
