The goal for a successful interview for a Business Manager is to assess the candidate’s leadership skills, strategic thinking abilities and business acumen.

Situational interview questions

  • Tell me about a time when you had to adapt to a changing situation or unexpected obstacle in the workplace. How did you approach the problem, and what did you learn from the experience?
  • Can you give me an example of a time when you had to effectively communicate a difficult or complex message to stakeholders, such as team members, clients, or customers? How did you ensure that your message was received and understood?

  • Can you describe a recent project you managed that involved implementing new technology?
  • How do you ensure that technology investments align with the company’s overall strategy and goals?
  • Can you walk us through your approach to analyzing and interpreting financial data in order to make strategic decisions?
  • How have you implemented change management strategies to encourage adoption of new systems or processes?
  • Can you provide an example of how you have leveraged data analytics to improve business operations or decision-making?

STAR interview questions

1. Can you walk me through a situation where you had to negotiate a major contract? What was the task assigned to you, what steps did you take to negotiate, and what was the final result?

2. Tell me about a time you had to manage a crisis at work. What was the situation, what was your role in it, what actions did you take to mitigate the crisis, and what was the outcome?

3. Can you describe a project you worked on that required you to manage a team? What was the project, what were your specific tasks, what steps did you take to manage the team, and what was the end result?

4. Have you ever had to implement a new process or system within the company? What was your role in the process, what actions did you take to ensure its success, and what was the end outcome?

5. Can you provide an example of a situation where you had to motivate your team despite facing obstacles? What was the situation, what was your role, what steps did you take to motivate your team, and what were the end results?
