The goal for a successful interview for a Supply Chain Manager is to assess the candidate’s ability to strategically manage the flow of goods so that the end-to-end supply chain is efficient, customer-focused, and cost-effective while simultaneously minimizing obstacles and risks.

  • One of your company’s suppliers has suddenly gone out of business. What steps do you take to identify alternative suppliers and ensure a smooth transition to a new supplier without disrupting production?

STAR interview questions

1. Can you tell me about a time when you had to deal with a supply chain issue? What was the situation, and what was your task in that situation? How did you address it, what action did you take? What was the end result?

2. Could you give me an example of how you optimized a supply chain process in your previous job? What was the situation, and what was your task in that situation? What actions did you take, and how did this result in an improvement in the supply chain process?

3. Can you describe a time when you had to manage a difficult supplier relationship? Could you share the context and what was expected of you? What action did you take, and what was the outcome?

4. Have you ever implemented any cost-saving measures in a supply chain operation? What was the situation, and what was your task in that situation? Could you run me through the actions you took and the result of those actions?

5. Can you walk me through a process you implemented that increased efficiency in the supply chain? Could you describe the situation and your responsibilities? How did you implement this process, and what was the impact on the supply chain?
