The goal for a successful interview for an Insurance Broker is for the candidate to demonstrate their knowledge of insurance policies and regulations, showcase their sales and communication skills, and prove their ability to build and maintain client relationships.
Situational interview questions
- A customer wants to purchase an insurance policy but is unsure which one would be the best fit for their needs. How would you go about helping them identify the right policy and any potential risks associated with it?
- You receive a call from a client informing that they have been in an accident and need to file a claim. However, their policy information is incomplete, and they are not sure what steps to take. What would you do to assist them in filing a claim and resolving the issue?
- A client is insistent on purchasing an insurance policy that you believe may not be the best fit for their needs, and you strongly advise against it. How would you convince them to reconsider and suggest the best alternative?
- You have received numerous complaints from a client claiming that their policy did not cover them for a specific incident. However, the terms and conditions of their policy explicitly state that such a situation would not be covered. How would you handle this situation and communicate with the client to resolve any misunderstandings?
- A customer feels like they have been paying high premiums for their policy and want a reduction. However, the policy they are referring to has a high level of risk associated with it. How would you explain the reasoning behind the premiums and convince them to maintain their current policy?

- Can you give an example of a time when you had to make a difficult decision with limited information? How did you approach the problem and what was the outcome?
Role-specific interview questions
- Can you explain the differences between term life and whole life insurance policies?
- How do you determine a client’s insurance needs and recommend appropriate coverage amounts?
- Have you worked with any specialized insurance products, such as cyber liability insurance, and if so, can you explain how they work?
- Can you walk me through the claims process for a client’s automobile insurance policy?
- How do you stay up-to-date on changes and developments in the insurance industry, and how do you incorporate that knowledge into your work with clients?

3. Can you share a situation where you had to go above and beyond to secure coverage for a client? What was your task in that situation, and what steps did you take to ensure the client’s needs were met? What was the result of your actions?
4. Have you ever had to navigate a complex legal or regulatory issue for a client? What was the task assigned to you, and what steps did you take to address the issue? What was the outcome or result of your actions?
5. Can you describe a time when you had to handle a high-pressure situation with a client or claim? What was your task in that situation, and what steps did you take to ensure a positive outcome? What was the result of your actions?
