Bank Teller Interview Questions

The goal for a successful interview for a Bank Teller is to assess the candidate’s ability to accurately and efficiently handle financial transactions, provide excellent customer service, and display a strong understanding of banking procedures and regulations.

Situational interview questions

  • A customer is complaining about a withdraw that was not registered in his account, how would you handle the situation?
  • Due to a technical issue, the system is not able to perform deposits or withdrawals, and there are several customers waiting in line, what actions would you take to ease the situation?
  • A customer has provided you with an incorrect account number for a wire transfer. How would you handle this mistake and ensure the funds reach the correct account?
  • A customer has overdrawn their account and refuses to accept the fees incurred. How do you explain to them the bank’s policies and help them understand the importance of keeping their account in good standing?
  • A customer is requesting a high amount of cash withdrawal, but you have concerns for their safety walking out of the bank with that much cash. How do you suggest alternative options while still meeting the customer’s needs?

  • How do you handle conflicts with customers while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor as a bank teller?

3. Can you discuss a time when you had to meet a tight deadline for an important banking project (Situation), what were your specific roles and responsibilities (Task), what steps did you take to complete the project within the required timeframe (Action), and what was the overall result of your contribution (Result)?

4. Have you ever faced a situation where you had to handle a complex financial transaction such as managing a large deposit, withdrawal or wire transfer (Situation)? What were your specific duties in that situation (Task), what steps did you take to ensure accuracy and security of the transaction (Action), and what was the result (Result)?
