Internal recruiter refers to an employee, most often member of the human resources department of the company, who assesses current staff and tries to fill a vacancy from within the existing workforce by either a promotion or an internal transfer.

Internal recruiter refers to an employee, most often member of the human resources department of the company, who assesses current staff and tries to fill a vacancy from within the existing workforce by either a promotion or an internal transfer. This process is known as internal recruitment.

Advantages and disadvantages of internal recruitment process

Advantages:

• Cheaper and quicker to recruit

• People are familiar with the business and how it operates

• Provides opportunities for promotion with in the business

• Gives motivation

Disadvantages:

• Limits the number of potential applicants

• No new ideas can be introduced from outside

• May cause resentment amongst candidates not appointed

• Creates another vacancy which needs to be filled
