Hierarchy of needs refers to a theory created by psychologist Abraham Maslow that explains human behavior in terms of basic needs for survival and growth which are arranged according to their importance for survival and power to motivate an individual.

Hierarchy of needs refers to a theory created by psychologist Abraham Maslow that explains human behavior in terms of basic needs for survival and growth which are arranged according to their importance for survival and power to motivate an individual.

Types of hierarchy needs

– Physiological needs: are basic to human survival and include essentials like food, water, shelter, oxygen and sleep.

– Safety needs: include needs for a sense of security and predictability in the world.

– Love and belonging needs: includes needs to feel accepted, belong to a group and create an intimate relationship with another person.

– Esteem needs: includes needs for both self-esteem and the esteem of others.

– Self-actualization needs: includes needs associated with realizing one’s full potential.

– Cognitive needs: includes need for curiosity, scientific interest and aesthetics.

– Transendence need: includes need to contribute to human welfare and to find higer meaning in life.
