Genetic-based discrimination refers to the practice of requesting genetic testing information during the hiring process and using that information to form other employment actions. Employers may ask for genetic testing information in order to understand which candidates are of a higher health-related risk.

It often implies an unequal treatment of employees on the basis of genetics i.e. gene mutation which is responsible for the risk of inherited disorder which leads to many applicants rejecting to do genetic testing from fear it will be used against them during the hiring process.
