  • A neighboring property has installed extremely bright outdoor lighting that is disrupting the sleep of your tenants. How would you resolve this situation and maintain positive relationships with both the tenants and the neighboring property owner?
  • A tenant reports a mold issue in their apartment. How would you investigate the issue, communicate with the tenant, and take action to resolve the problem?
  • One of your tenants is experiencing financial hardship and is struggling to pay their rent. How would you approach this situation with sensitivity and determine potential solutions to help the tenant maintain their tenancy?

Soft skills interview questions

  • Can you describe a time when you had to communicate difficult news to a tenant or property owner? How did you handle the situation and ensure a positive outcome?
  • How do you prioritize competing demands and manage your time effectively as a Property Manager? Can you give me an example of how you have handled a particularly demanding workload in the past?

2. Have you ever had to handle a maintenance emergency in one of your properties (situation)? What was your specific responsibility as the property manager (task)? How did you respond to the emergency (action)? And what was the outcome of the incident (result)?

3. Tell me about a time when you had to evict a tenant (situation)? What was your role as the property manager in the eviction process (task)? How did you handle the situation from beginning to end (action)? And what was the final outcome of the eviction (result)?

4. Can you describe a situation when one of your properties was vandalized (situation)? What was your role in managing the situation as the property manager (task)? What steps did you take to address the vandalism (action)? And what was the result or impact on the property after the incident was addressed (result)?

5. Tell me about a time when you had to effectively communicate with a property owner about maintenance or repairs (situation)?
