The goal for a successful interview for Police is to assess the candidate’s ability to handle intense and stressful situations, their communication skills, and their knowledge of laws and protocols related to policing.

Situational interview questions

  • You’re dealing with a notoriously difficult gang that has been terrorizing a local neighbourhood. They’ve been known to carry weapons and retaliate if challenged. What strategies would you use to approach this situation and ensure that you maintain safety for yourself and the community?
  • You have just pulled over a suspected drunk driver that refuses to cooperate with your questions and field sobriety tests. How would you deescalate the situation and communicate with the driver in order to obtain the relevant information?
  • You are tasked with investigating a homicide case with little to no evidence or witnesses. What steps would you take to gather any available evidence, interview potential witnesses, and identify the perpetrator?
