The goal for a successful interview for Nursing Supervisor is to assess the candidate’s knowledge and experience in nursing leadership, as well as their ability to effectively manage and mentor a team of nurses.
Situational interview questions
- Imagine you have three nurses calling in sick on a busy day. How would you go about reallocating staffing and ensuring patient care is not compromised?
- Suppose a nurse makes a medication error due to misreading the prescription. How would you handle the situation, and what steps would you take to prevent similar mistakes from occurring in the future?
- Imagine a nurse is facing resistance from a patient reluctant to follow treatment protocols and disrupts the hospital environment significantly. What would you do to tackle this situation and maintain a satisfactory care outcome?
- Suppose a patient or a family member lodges a complaint against you or one of your nurses. How would you investigate the issue and respond to the complaint to ensure satisfaction for all parties?
- Imagine if a nurse needs to confront a doctor about questionable medical decisions that could have adverse consequences on the patient’s care. How would you empower your team to communicate their views without undue conflict, even when faced with authority barriers?
Soft skills interview questions

- Conflict resolution skills are vital when managing a team. Can you describe a time when you successfully resolved a conflict within your team, and what steps did you take to reach a resolution?
