The goal for a successful interview for a Material Handler is to assess the candidate’s experience and knowledge in material handling procedures, as well as their ability to operate equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Situational interview questions

  • How do you troubleshoot inventory discrepancies and what steps do you take to resolve them?
  • In your opinion, what is the most important skill for a material handler to have, and why?

STAR interview questions

1. Can you describe a situation where you had to handle a large volume of materials? What was your task in that situation, and what actions did you take to ensure the materials were properly stored and delivered? What were the results of your actions?

2. Have you ever encountered a challenging situation where a shipment of materials was delayed? What steps did you take to address the issue, and what was the outcome of your actions?

3. Can you provide an example of a time when you had to report a problem or safety concern related to materials? What was your task in that situation, and how did you address the issue? What was the final outcome?

4. Describe a situation where you had to work with others to transport and deliver a large item. What was your role in that situation, and what actions did you take to coordinate and ensure a successful delivery? What was the end result?

5. Have you ever had to work with hazardous materials? What steps did you take to ensure your safety, as well as the safety of others, while handling those materials? What was the outcome of your actions?
