Labor certification refers to an immigration process concept in the U.S. in which employers have to confirm that there are no qualified American workers to fill up the position so they have to hire someone of foreign nationality on the basis of legal and permanent residence. It was created in order to protect the U.S. labor market.

For foreign candidates, it is the first step in the process of obtaining a green card.
