Teacher Interview Questions

The goal of a successful interview for a Teacher is for the interviewer to have a clear understanding of the candidate’s teaching experience, methodology, and ability to connect with students.

Situational interview questions

  • You have planned a lesson to teach a new concept to your class but you realize halfway through the lesson that the students are not understanding it. What steps would you take to ensure the students understand the concept?
  • You notice that one of your students is struggling with a specific topic and is falling behind in class. How would you approach the student and help them catch up with the rest of the class?
  • Imagine one of your students is acting out in class and disrupting the class environment. How would you handle the situation while ensuring it does not distract the other students or disrupt the class?
  • You have planned an activity for the class but one of the students expresses their discomfort with the activity. How would you address this situation while still meeting the learning objectives and ensuring an inclusive environment for all students?
  • A student is struggling with a personal issue, which is affecting their academic performance. How would you support the student while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring their academic progress is not affected?

Soft skills interview questions

  • Can you describe a situation in which your communication skills helped you effectively connect with a challenging student or parent?
  • How have you demonstrated adaptability in the classroom when faced with unexpected changes or situations?
  • Can you share an experience where your patience and empathy helped you resolve a conflict with a student or colleague?
  • In what ways have you collaborated with fellow teachers, administrators, or even community members to create a more inclusive classroom environment?
  • Can you give an example of a time when you prioritized and managed your workload effectively? How did this impact your interactions with students and their progress?

Role-specific interview questions

  • Can you explain the process you use to incorporate technology in lesson planning and delivery?
  • How would you handle a student who is struggling with a particular concept in the classroom, specifically in a technical subject, such as computer programming?
  • What experience do you have working with students who have learning or physical disabilities and how would you modify your approach to teaching to ensure that all students can participate in a technical subject?
  • Explain the importance of maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes and advancements within a particular technical subject area and how you accomplish this.
  • How do you approach designing assessments or projects that effectively measure a student’s understanding of technical subject matter?

1. Can you describe a situation where you faced a challenging classroom environment?
